Shirley Ann Winters was born on July 10, 1936, to U.L. Tubbs and Elmira Bogany Tubbs in Goodrich, Texas.  Later, the family relocated and made Houston their home. Shirley received her education in the Houston Independent School District, where she graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School.

On June 29, 1959, Shirley was united in marriage to Qutha Winters.  Their union was blessed with four children, Qutha Byron, Griselda, Gregory, and Latonia.

Shirley loved children and found her ideal role working to help educate young children within the Houston Independent School District.  Elementary children with special needs held a special place in Shirley's heart and she dedicated over 20 years to the education field.

Shirley also had a passion for her family and enjoyed spending time with them.  She enjoyed traveling, dining out at her favorite seafood restaurants, cooking, and studying the bible.

In 1983, Shirley obeyed the Gospel and became a faithful member at The Church of Christ in Scenic Woods.  Shirley shared the gospel with everyone she came in contact with and she held numerous bible studies to teach others about the gospel. Not only did Shirley share about God's goodness, but she also lived a Godly life, which resulted in her entire immediate family members being baptized into Christ.

The family later began worshipping at The Church of Christ in Highland Heights where Shirley served faithfully.

Shirley was a very meek, kind, gentle, and virtuous woman who strived every day to live her life in a way that was pleasing to God.

Shirley loved her family and never met a fried shrimp she didn't like.  She made the best lemon meringue pies, which were highly requested during the holidays.

Shirley departed this life on Saturday, February 10, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Qutha; parents U.L. and Elmira; two children, Griselda and Gregory, two brothers, James Mason and Ulysses; and two sisters, Gloria and Betty.

She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Qutha Byron {Teresa) and Latonia Walker (Ernest); sister, Renell Jones; brother, Calvin Tubbs; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.

Services for Mrs. Winters will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Highland Heights Church of Christ. 1005 W. Little York, Houston, Texas 77091.

A viewing will be held at 10:00 am followed by an 11:00 am funeral.
