Rita Smith Chaisson was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on April 24, 1937, to the proud parents of Elvia Chavis and Louis Smith. She had five sisters and three brothers. She received her formal education from St. Landry Parish Elementary and Clark High School in Opelousas, Louisiana. Rita attended Holy Ghost Catholic Church, where she made first communion and confirmation. She has gone home to be reunited in Heaven with her siblings, Richard J. Smith, Franklin J. Smith, Lincoln J. Smith, Mary Jubert Smith, Mary Nita Smith; her son, Paul Chaisson; and granddaughter, Reshelia Chaisson. Rita leaves precious memories to her children, Sylvia Chaisson, Joyce Chaisson, Pauline Chaisson, Betty Chaisson, Adolph Mark Chaisson, Edward Junior Chaisson; siblings, Elsie Smith of Houston, Texas and Mary Ann Lassard of Opelousas, Louisiana; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Service for Rita will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, Viewing will be from 10-11 am following funeral service.
