Fletcher

1953-2023

As the sun rose on March 2. 1953, a son was born, Norris Wayne Fletcher to Howard Mack Fletcher Sr., and Iver Lee Hooper Fletcher in Shelby County, Timpson Texas.

Norris was reared by his paternal grandparents George Fletcher, Sr., and Exie Jackson Fletcher in Garrison, Texas, where he learned to love and serve the Lord at Caledonia Church of God in Christ, now known as Caledonia Holy Temple. He attended Concorde Elementary through Concorde High until tenth grade in Concorde, Texas, close to Mount Enterprise, where he played basketball and baseball. Then he moved to Houston, Texas to be with his mother and finished his education at Kashmere High School.

He met and married Sherryle Maxwell in 1971, then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served many tours of duty, including Germany, Korea, Kileen, Texas, El Paso, Texas, Leesville, Louisiana, Columbia South, Carolina, and Desert Storm.

While in Germany, a son was born named Howard L. Fletcher. Norris retired from the Army after serving for 23 years.

Then he started his career at the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, where he was a lead driver and trainer. He met and married Pamela Marie Holmes and became an instant family with her, Thaddeus Holmes and Joy Ross. To this union, Faith and Joshua Fletcher were born. He retired from Metro after having been employed there for 23 years.

In 2009, Minister Fletcher answered the call to the ministry under the pastorage of Rev. Audrey Mitchell. He served faithfully at Calvary United Methodist Church as an Assisting Minister, co-chair of the Board of Trustees, a member of the Men's Chorus, and leader· of the Point Men's Ministry, where "iron sharpens iron .'' He also served under Pastor Thomas Walker, Pastor Keith Somerville, and Pastor Lily Ferrell. He was a mentor to several youth in the church and Joshua's Crew out in the community.

Rev. Norris Wayne Fletcher stated in 2017 at his retirement celebration from the Army and Metro ''When I retire from preaching the gospel, it will be my last retirement!''

Wayne Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents Howard M. Fletcher, Sr., and Iver Lee Fletcher, his paternal grandparents George Fletcher, Sr., and Exie Jackson Fletcher, his maternal grandparents E. D. Hooper and Mary Page Hooper; sisters Janice Melva Johnson, and Nola Faye Fletcher; brother Jeffrey Lee Whitaker, and first wife Sherryle Maxwell.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Pamela Holmes Fletcher, son Howard L. Fletcher, son Thaddeus Holmes Sr., (Amber), daughter Joy Ross (Kevin), daughter Faith Fletcher Carter (Dantrell) and son Joshua Fletcher; mother­ in-law Ethel Holmes Larry; brother Howard Fletcher, Jr., Sister Edith Fletcher, and Deborah Henderson; grandchildren Tariji Harris, Khristian Scott, Thaddeus Holmes II, Tarisi Holmes, and Kayson Scott; sister-in-law Trishela Ann Pipkins (Henry); brothers-in-law Donald R. L. Holmes, Tyrone J. Smith, and a host of relatives and friends.

Service for Mr. Norris W. Fletcher will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023,
