Pearlie Mae Wilkins
was born August 14, 1926 to Smither Butler and Corine Griffin. She was raised by a Special Aunt (Melissa Kizzie). She attended school in the Walker County School District.
Pearlie was blessed with three children from her first union; McElree Jr., Carolyn and Anita. She later married Milam Wilkins Sr. from Brookshire, Texas and five children were born to this union; Melvin, Bobby, Betty, Cathy, and Nancy. Pearlie Mae was a loving and devoted step-mother to Milam Wilkins, Jr., and Dorothy Hall.
Pearlie served in many capacities. She worked for Charlene Block and Carol Gold for many years. Her greatest joy was raising her children and her grandchildren and being the Matriarch of the family by always having an open home for many.
On September 12, 2016 at 5:30am, Pearlie Mae was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is at peace with God now and rejoicing in her heavenly home.
Pearlie Mae Wilkins was preceded in death by: husband, Milam Wilkins Sr; sons, McElree Johnson Jr., and Bobby Wilkins; daughter Anita Marie Randle; daughter in-law Agnes Johnson; step-son John Wilkins; 2 grandsons MelMarkques Johnson and Clifford Randle Jr.; 6 sisters Orave Reese, Mary Lou Adams, Sarah Lagway, Lattie Mae Dickerson, Goldie B. Allen, and Goldie L. Lagway; 2 brothers Earl Lagway, and LA Lagway.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Her loving 5 children, Carolyn Johnson Bates (Dwight Frazier), Melvin Wilkins Sr. (Barbara), Betty Fitzgerald (Min. Roland Fitzgerald), Cathy Mechelle Wilkins, and Nancy Allen (Jerry); son in-law Clifford Randle Sr.; 4 sisters, Mae Dale Hector, Ruth Harrison, Josie Freeman, and Ruby Fay Perry; 2 brothers, J. A. Lagway, and James R. Lagway; 30 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend.
Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Family and friends are welcome to visit and view Pearlie Mae from 12pm to 12:55pm. Funeral service will start promptly at 1pm. Both services will be held at Evangelist Temple C.O.G.I.C., 11603 Martin Luther King Blvd., Houston, Texas 77048. Pastor Terrance Kirk will be officiating, and Pastor Frank A. Maxie will grace the family, friends, and all in attendance with final words of comfort.
Final resting place for Pearlie Mae Wilkins will be in Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery (Pearland, Texas).
