Leola Mitchell was born on October 20, 1931 to Noah and Melia Mitchell of Opelousas, Louisiana. She was the second child of eight children born to this family. Leola was Baptized at an early age and joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. She attended public school and graduated from Paul L. Dunbar High School in Washington, Louisiana. Leola moved to Houston, Texas where she met and married Joseph H. Callier Sr. on April 10, 1967. To this union six children were born.

On December 30, 2015, Leola passed away quietly from a short term illness. She was preceded in death by both parents, Noah and Melia Callier; two brothers: Alvin and Robert Mitchell. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Vital and two daughters: Freddie Bell Goodman and Lydia Ann Callier.

She leaves to cherish her memories, husband, Joseph H. Callier, Sr. Three daughters: Brenda Warren (Randy), Edie Burr (Donald) and Lynette Callier and one son, Joseph Callier, Jr., all of Houston, Texas. She also leaves to mourn this great loss, two sister: Ann Lamelle (George) of Opelousas, Louisiana and Emily Lemons (William) of Houston, Texas; one brother, Alfred Mitchell (Vernell). A host of grandchildren, great grand-children, nieces and nephews.

Leola Callier viewing will be Monday, January 11, 2015 from 10 -11 AM. Funeral Service will began at 11:00 AM. Both services will be held at Duncan Mortuary Chapel, 5806 N Wayside Dr., Houston, Texas 77028. Interment will be Houston National Cemetery
