Julia Beatrice Collins-Lewis' Obituary
Julia Beatrice Collins Lewis
was born December 25, 1942 to Giles and Rebecca Collins in Houston, Texas. She was the eighth child of fourteen children. She graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1961.
Julia was married to John Eddie Lewis, Jr., (who preceded her in death), on March 22, 1964. To this union 2 children were born, Dwayne Eddie and John Eddie III.
She was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. During her Christian walk she attended Sunlight Baptist Church and later united with Little Union Missionary Baptist Church. At Little Union she was a faithful member of the choir and kitchen ministry until her health failed.
Julia lived in the Rosewood Community for 46 years. She was active with numerous activities such as softball, line dancing, playing spades, going crabbing and shopping. She worked in retail for many years before retiring as a manager. Julia was energetic and such a blessing to her immediate and extended family. She would volunteer to care for kids, visit the elderly and work at the church. She will truly be missed by all.
On December 4, 2015 Julia was called home to rest. She was preceded in death by her husband John Eddie Lewis, Jr.; son Dwayne Eddie Lewis; parents Giles and Rebecca Collins; father and mother in-law John and Bernice Lewis; sisters Rebecca Green and Mildred Wanza; 1 brother, Giles Collins.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a beloved son John III (Jr); grandchildren Demarcus, Sagel, Johneicia, Alexis, and Jamarclin; sisters Lillian Prather, Leola Mitchell, Corean Mayes, Betty Jackson, Winnie Bailey, and Debra Love; brothers Hubert Collins, Eddie Collins (Mary), Willie Collins (Brenda), and Sammie Collins; sister in-laws Annie Carol Lewis, and Janice Lewis; great aunt Henrietta Arline; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Services for Julia will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Visitation will be held from 9am to 10:55am, followed by funeral service starting at 11am. Both services will be held at Little Union Missionary Baptist Church, 6609 Letcher Dr., (Settegast Community), Houston, Texas 77028. Pastor Henry Fields, Eulogist.
Burial will take place in Paradise North Cemetery, 10401 W. Montgomery Rd., Houston, Texas 77088.
