Joseph Jewel Long
1934 - 2024

Joseph Jewel Long, age 90 passed away on July 8, 2024 in Houston, Texas.  He was born on July 3, 1934 in Willis, Texas to loving parents James Long and Nealy McQueen Long.

Joseph accepted Christ at an early age.  His faith led him to unite with Lily Island Baptist Church in Camden, Texas. He received his formal education and graduated from Chester High School in Chester, Texas.  He furthered his education by enlisting and serving  in the  U.S. Military, first in Air Force in 1953 and then the Navy in 1957.

Joseph was united in holy matrimony  to Ophelia Earl Hale on June 16, 1954.  This union was blessed with four children.

Joseph Jewel Long departed this life on July 8, 2024.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Long; his wife of 63 years Ophelia Long; son, Charles Earl Long; daughters, Alice Long-Lewis, and Cherlyn Coleman; brothers, James Long and Robert Long; and sister Flossie Young.

He leaves to cherish loving memories to his daughter, Debra Hale (Robert) of Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Home Going Service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024.  Visitation from 11 am to 12 pm - funeral service starting at 12 pm in Duncan Mortuary Chapel, 5806 N. Wayside Dr., Houston, Texas - Rev. Robert Robinson officiating.

Interment at 2 pm in Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas 77028
