Throughout his life, Jewell faithfully served his community in many capacities.

Pastor Jewell Davidson Scott, affectionately known as J.D., Uncle Jay, and Pastor, was born on May 29, 1941, in Houston, Texas, to the late Earnest Scott and Beatrice Scott.

Jewell received his early education in the Houston Independent School District. He attended Phyllis Wheatley High School before graduating from B.C. Elmore High School. A lifelong learner, he believed that education was a gift meant to be shared. Throughout his life, he earned multiple college degrees from various institutions and generously imparted his knowledge and wisdom to everyone he encountered.

After briefly attending Texas Southern University (TSU), Jewell answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 19. He proudly served four years with honor and distinction. During his younger years in California, he was also a dedicated community activist, always seeking ways to uplift those around him.

A gifted entrepreneur, Jewell owned and operated an electronics repair business where he repaired televisions, boat motors, lawn mowers, and other electronic equipment. He also owned a successful lawn care service, which he later entrusted to his stepson, Shawn Bishop. His strong work ethic led him to positions with ARMCO Steel and IBM, where he continued to build a life centered on service, excellence, and integrity.

As a young man, Jewell was an exceptional athlete whose talents earned him recognition in both high school and the United States Army. He excelled in football, track and field, wrestling, and boxing, demonstrating the discipline and determination that would characterize his entire life.

Music was another of Jewell's God-given gifts. As a lifelong musician, he played in his school band and later became a professional musician and bandleader, performing for many years. His musical talents extended across multiple instruments, including the trumpet, keyboards, drums, lead guitar, and bass guitar. Passionate about developing others, he also taught music lessons to aspiring young musicians, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation.

Throughout his life, Jewell faithfully served his community in many capacities. He worked as a substitute teacher, tutor, social worker, basketball referee, mentor, and businessman. Alongside his brother, Willie Scott, he co-owned Scott Alarm Service, a burglar alarm and security company. Whether through his profession, ministry, or personal relationships, Jewell dedicated his life to helping others grow and succeed.

Above all, Jewell was a devoted husband, loving father, caring grandfather, faithful uncle, treasured friend, and compassionate pastor whose life reflected his unwavering commitment to God and to people.

In 1995, Pastor Jewell Scott recommitted his life to the Lord under the leadership of Pastor Margie Russell at Open Door Church of God in Christ, where he faithfully served as an Associate Pastor. Two years later, in 1997, he was united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Missionary Jane Scott, and together they built a life rooted in faith, love, and ministry.

Pastor Scott later served as an Associate Pastor at Lighthouse Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor George Perry. He also faithfully served in the Higher Dimension District under the leadership of Superintendent Michael Jordan Sr.

In 2000, God called Pastor Scott to shepherd his own congregation at Miracle Chapel Church of God in Christ, which was later renamed Second Gethsemane Church of God in Christ. He served faithfully alongside Superintendent Michael Jordan Sr., leading God's people with humility, compassion, and unwavering faith.

When Hurricane Ike devastated the church building in 2008, Pastor Scott remained steadfast. For approximately three months, he and his congregation worshiped with Pastor Johnny Rhônes until Bishop Rufus Kyle and Superintendent Johnny Tates placed the ministry at Faith Temple at Englewood.

Pastor Scott faithfully served as the Senior Pastor of Faith Temple at Englewood for 15 years within the Northeast Houston District, under the leadership of Bishop Johnny Tates and Superintendent Aaron Houston. He remained a faithful shepherd until declining health led him to retire from pastoral ministry.

Even in retirement, Pastor Scott's love for worship never wavered. He faithfully attended Love Fellowship Church of God in Christ, where he worshiped alongside his beloved stepdaughter, LaKeisha Robinson, and son-in-law, Pastor Reginald Robinson Sr., until the Lord called him home on July 18, 2026.

Pastor Jewell Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Scott Sr. and Beatrice Scott; his brothers, Earnest Scott Jr. and Willie Scott; and his sister, Mary Hines-Singletary.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife, Missionary Jane Scott; his children, Jackie Scott Robinson-Burnette (Victor Burnette), Antonio Carlos Scott, Kecia Williams (Richard Williams), Aaliyah Scott, and Zoey Scott; his stepchildren, John Bishop Jr. (Joe Bishop), LaKeisha Robinson (Pastor Reginald Robinson Sr.), Allen Bishop (Stephanie Bishop), and Shawn Bishop.

He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Alexis Jones (Robert Jones), Naiomi Smith, Chloe Jones, Victoria Burnette, Brooke Burnette, Julian Scott (Ava Scott), Logan Scott, Christiana Delos Reyes (Zackhary Delos Reyes), Chloe Williams, and Caleb Williams, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

Pastor Jewell Davidson Scott lived a life defined by faith, service, leadership, compassion, and love. Whether in the pulpit, the classroom, on the athletic field, through music, or within the community, he poured himself into the lives of others. His unwavering faith in God, generous spirit, and servant's heart have left a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
