Jessie James Bowie
1949 - 2022

On February 26, 1949, Jessie "James" Bowie was born in Winnfield, Louisiana to Elbert Bowie, Sr., and Ida Wilson Bowie.  James was baptized at an early age and attended Church of Christ until his health declined.  After James graduated High School, he joined the U. S. Army where he received and Honorable discharge.

In the year of 1973 James married the love of his life, Cassie Diane Chesney and to this union they were blessed with two beautiful children, James Paul Bowie and Brandee Bowie.

James never met a stranger that he did not like.  He enjoyed shooting pool, DJ'ing, roller skating, traveling, and spending time with his family.  He enjoyed going fishing even if he didn't catch anything.

In the early morning of March 11, 2022 James went to a glorious resting place that God had prepared for him.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Bowie Sr., and Ida Wilson Bowie; siblings, Annie Mae Riser, Mary Sampson, Evernell Shaw, Eloise Payton, Otis Bowie, Henry Bowie, and Elbert Bowie, Jr.

James leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and caring wife Cassie Diane Bowie, son James Paul Bowie (Eureka), daughter Brandee Bowie; grandchildren, Jazmine Janeau Williams, James Paul Bowie, Jr. (JJ), JaKayla Cherrell Bowie, Alexys Sharaun Green, and Ayriel Shavaun Green;  sister LaNell McCurdy of Detroit, Michigan; mother-in-law Mrs. Almeta Chesney; special cousins, Henry and Harvey Bowie; many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

Celebration of His Life and Legacy will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.  Viewing will be held from 9 am to 9: 55 am, followed by 10 am funeral service, at Duncan Mortuary Chapel, 5806 N. Wayside Dr., Houston, Texas 77028.  Rev. Douglas, Eulogist.

Interment will take place at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas 77038 - 12:30 pm gate time.
