James Daniel Irvin, Jr., also know as "J.D" was born in Houston, Texas on September 6, 1930 to J.D. Irvin, Sr., and Josephine Lawrence Irvin.  J.D. was the oldest of six children.

J.D. accepted Christ at an early age and re-dedicated his life back to Christ at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Chester Miles.

James met and married his childhood sweetheart Mamie Lee Thomas, and to this union seven children were born;  Paulette, James, Letha, Harvey, Darssie, Archie, and Oraceil.  He worked and retired from W.E. Woodruff and Company.

On January 1, 2020, J.D's book of life quietly closed.  The angel of the Lord came to escort this child of God home.  He is preceded in death by his parents, J.D. Sr., and Josephine Irvin; his wife Mamie; children James Hill, James Irvin, Archie Irvin, Letha Perkins, and Ann Pratt; brothers Rudolph and Joe; and sister Leona.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving companion Josephine; 3 daughters Paulette, Lavan (Wilfred), Darssie, and Oraceil; 1 son Harvey Earvin; 2 brothers Roy (Rose), and Robert (Brenda); 1 sister Bobbi; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, godson Ray; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Home Going Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020.  Visitation starting at 10 am followed by funeral service at 11 am.  Services will be held at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 7728 Peachtree St., Houston, Texas 77016.  Pastor S. C. August - Officiating.
