Obituary

Irma Jean Latin was born on June 12, 1960, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to C.L. Cook Sr. & Mary Ellen Cook. She was affectionately known simply as "Jean" to us. Jean stepped effortlessly into the role of family matriarch and was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was boisterous and had a big personality. Her presence impacted so many souls.

Throughout her time on this side of heaven, Jean was known for her care for others and would take anyone in who needed a helping hand and a leg up. Her God-given gift for cooking brought so many together in camaraderie. She will always be remembered for her amazing gumbo, cornbread dressing, and sweet treats like her outstanding banana pudding. Jean had a penchant for bringing family together and making everyone feel at home. Her kindness was unmatched and without judgment.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Kelvin Latin, uncle Leroy Jones, mother Mary Ellen Cook, father C.L. Cook Sr., and grandmother Ms. Emma Lee Davis.

Jean is survived by her son Darrel Wayne Cook (Dalia) and grandson Alex Cook. She leaves behind her siblings, C. L. Cook Jr., Johnny Ray Cook (Shewanna), Jerry Cook (Melanie), Donna Jackson (John). She also leaves behind nephews & nieces, Kai Davis, Emmanuel McHenry, Defonte Jr., Jerry Jamel Cook, Chaz Cook, Defonte McHenry, Shanterica Cook, Laquisha Cook, Shuntanell Lindon, Ashli Cook, Jonisia Jackson, Donitria Jackson, Inok Cook, Faith McHenry, NaShannon Hayes, NaShundra Hayes, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
