Elder Jesse Leroy Jackson Sr. was born on Thursday, January 27, 1944, in Teague, Texas, to the late Boston Jackson and Ethel Busby Jackson. At a young age, his family relocated to Houston, Texas, where he was raised in the Settegast community and attended local schools, including B.C. Elmore High School. Jesse was a gifted athlete who excelled in both football and basketball.

Jesse later began a dedicated career with DuPont Chemical, where he worked faithfully as a machinist for many years. Known for his strong work ethic and dependable spirit, he took great pride in providing for his family until his retirement in 1993.

On April 17, 1964, Jesse entered into a holy covenant of marriage with Wynell Doucette Jackson. Throughout their years of marriage, Jesse and Wynell lived out their sacred vows with unwavering love, faith, and devotion. Through the grace and mercy of Christ, they were blessed to build a life that reflected the true meaning of commitment, steadfast, enduring, and faithful until the very end.

Above all, Jesse treasured his family. He found immense joy in being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and loved ones. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a very special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Whether sharing laughter, offering wisdom, telling stories, or simply enjoying their presence, Jesse’s love for his family was evident in all that he did. His warm smile, joyful spirit, and loving heart created memories that will forever be treasured by those blessed to know him.

Preceded in death by his parents, Boston and Ethel (Busby) Jackson. His siblings are Harold (Bubba) Jackson Sr., Juanita Miles, Fred Jackson Sr., Lola Bell Magana, and Ollie Jackson Sr. One Godson: Jerry Winston.

Devoted Family members who are left in the hands of the Lord to cherish his memories: Wife Wynell Jackson, Children; Willy Jackie Jackson ( Sandra), Shanda Tolliver Jackson (Tracy), Jesse Jackson II (Trisha); One sister; Alice Gates; grandchildren, Joseph W.L Tolliver, Gabeial Tolliver Henderson, Kristen Jackson, Jordan Lee, Jesse Jackson 3rd, Cyrus Jackson, Bryson Jackson; 14 great grandchildren as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and host of other relatives and friends.
