Mr. Edward Shields
was born to the union of the late Sterling and Sydonia Shields on September 9, 1939 in Sorrel, Louisiana. He was baptized at an early age. He moved to Port Arthur, Texas in 1952. Edward was educated in the Port Arthur I.S.D., and graduated from Lincoln High School. He united in wedlock with Bernice Ellis on August 20, 1970 and was with his life time friend Cheryl Cox until his death. He moved to Baytown and then to Houston, Texas where he resided until his death. He was a member of Community Baptist Church of Houston, Texas.
Edward Shields departed this life on October 5, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Sterling and Sydonia Shields; sister Shirley Sims; and four brothers, Sterling Shields, Jr., James Shields, Ernest Shields, and George Shields; and one step-daughter Betty Jones.
He leaves to mourn his death: his wife Bernice Shields, and his dearest and devoted friend Cheryl Cox of Houston, Texas; four children, Eldridge Sirls, Tira Shields, Cedrick Cox, and Cimetria Cox, all of Houston, Texas; one step-son Clifford Sirls; four step-daughters, Cheryl Sirls, Dorothy Collins, Shirley Harris, and Isalette Harrison; two sisters, Viola Rhine (Clarence) of Jeanerette, Louisiana, and Margie Mitchell (Robert) of Port Arthur, Texas; one brother Miller Shields; two grandchildren La'Sharundra Sirls, Nyeshia Sirls; two great-grandchildren Damarius Sirls, Kendrick Jackson Jr.; and two very special nieces, Cheryl Wilson (Robert), and Vera Key (Mark); a host of other nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Services will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015. Visitation will start at 10am followed by 11am funeral service at Community Baptist Church, 8118 Miley St., Houston, Texas 77028 - Pastor Felton Tisino officiating.
Burial will follow in Houston Memorial Garden Cemetery (Pearland, Texas).
