On July 8, 1936, a baby girl was born in Houston, Texas to Aaron and Josephine Smith.  They named her Dorothy Mae Smith (Little Mama).  Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Pastor E. D. Carrington and became a member of Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the Heights area of Houston.  Dorothy attended Jack Yates and Booker T. Washington High School.  She was the head majorette of the band and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas.

In 1953, she met a young preacher, who was the lead singer of the gospel quartet group "The Echoes of Zion", the late Pastor C. G. Wilkins.  They were united in holy matrimony that same year.  To this union, were born five children.

Dorothy (Little Mama) furthered her education and attended Franklin Beauty School and received her cosmetology license as a beautician.  She was noted for being on of the best beauticians in the Acres Home area.

This wonderful woman was also noted for feeding and sharing what she had with those who were in need.  Dorothy founded and organized a Ladies Club called Ladies of Excellence.  She was an active and faithful church member of New Life in Christ Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Frank Maxie.  She served as one of the Sunday School teachers and as a mission department worker.  She and Leon later united with Greater New Victory Missionary Baptist Church to support their son, Pastor C. D. Wilkins, as he followed the vision given to him by God.  She supported and cared for the well-being and spiritual welfare of her church by contributing spiritually and financially.  A faithful member she was, until her health began to decline.

She worked diligently for the church.  She instituted Second Sunday Fellowship Dinner for the church family, she was a Sunday School teacher, President of the Senior Mission, and Mother of the Church.  What a faithful servant of the Kingdom of God.  We love you always.

In 1983, Dorothy met Leon McCoy and married him.  Being the mother she was, she gained six bonus children, three boys and three girls.  The family grew from five to twelve children.  She never skipped a beat, but kept trusting in the Lord.

Dorothy (Dot) loved her children.  She demanded the best out of them.  She also loved to travel, fish, bake, and cook.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband Leon, and two brothers James and Johnny.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories:  Charles (B.J.) and Linda, Kenneth Richard, Sr., Lori (Alton), Erick (Veatrice), William Earl Thomas, Jeremy Leon, Jr., Debra Melonie, and Sabrina; 19 grandchildren, Tiffany (Stacy), Curiea, Keshia, Dionne, Tracy, Demarcus, Cori, Alecia, Rick Jr., Brittany, Alton Jr. (Andrea), Darreshia, Darrell Jr., Diamonique, Shenitra, Teyana, Journey, Lyric, and Erick Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren, Robert Jr., Marquis, Hosea, Braylon, Tray, Deja, Johnny Jr., Donald, Nicholas, Elyse, Michale, and Alyssa;  six great-great-grandchildren, Mia Rae, Sariah, Miracle, Anaya, Jayden, Kayla, and Elijah; she also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.

Celebration of  Her Life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. - followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m.  Both services will be held at New Life In Christ Baptist Church, 8121 W. Montgomery Rd., Houston, Texas 77088.   Pastor Frank Maxie, Officiating.
