Clarice Alexander was born December 5, 1929. She was the third and youngest child of James Alexander and Willa Anna Martin-Alexander. She was educated in the Public School System of Tucker Texas.

She accepted Christ as her personal savior and was filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age.

In 1948 she moved to Houston, Texas and became a member of the Lorraine Street Church of God in Christ under the Pastorage or Elder Darrett. She remained a faithful member there until 1967. Rev. Dr. A.J. Hines started his ministry in 1968 and she became a founding member of Kashmere Garden Church of God in Christ later called Garden of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ under the pastorage of the Late Dr. A. J. Hines. In 1985 she was united in Holy Matrimony with Jessie Burks and became a member of the Norton Temple COGIC under the pastorage leadership of Superintendent Luther Swindle. Mother Burks served faithfully as church mother and in all other capacities given. She was truly a willing worker for the kingdom. Whatever her hands found to do, she did it willingly and wholeheartly. She was a great encourager to others.

She was preceded in death by her parents: James Alexander, Willie Anna Martin-Alexander, Step Mother: Genieva Alexander; Sister: Carrie Alexander-Harris, Brother: James Lee Alexander.

She leaves to cherish her memory one brother Othella (Sheila) Alexander of Houston; three nieces Hazel Rax-Winfield, Perasie Thomas of Houston, TX, Ericka Alexander-Anderson (Victor) of Dallas, Texas; three nephews Larry (Kathleen) Alexander, Othella (Anntricia) Alexander, Jr. of Houston, TX and James (Shirley) Alexander of Oakwood, Texas; 13 – great nieces and nephews, 17 great-great nieces and nephews, 5 – Great-great-great nieces and nephews, A special god daughter LaTonja Pouncy-Lucas, God children: Clara Russell -Logan, Kay Cain-Mukes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Although she had no biological children, she nurtured many youth whom she loved and who loved her.

Services will be held on Saturday June 13, 2020 starting at 11:00 am at Norton Memorial Temple COGIC located on 5008 Lucille Street, Houston, Texas 77026
