Calvin Merritt was born on September 9, 1957 to Rev. Lindsey and Flavia Merritt. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Sunshine Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Beverly. He and the other Merritt siblings started singing many melodies of heaven and he could always be heard with the high pitch tenor voice.
Calvin joined Church Without Walls under the leadership of Rev. Ralph Douglas West until his demise. He was self-employed and traveled a great deal. While traveling, Calvin would spread the word through humming, passionately singing and talking to many he met about the loves of his life, his three grand-daughters.

On Monday, February 8, 2016, God looked down and called his servant home. Now he has entered into the realm of imaginable joy and perpetual care.

He was preceded in death by both his parents: Rev. Lindsey and Flavia Merritt; brother: Melvin Merritt; sisters: Janice Womack and Gwendolyn Williams.

He leaves to treasure his memories three sons: DeMarcus Merritt, Jacori Merritt, and Derrick Crowder; three grand-daughters Ryleigh and Jaici Merritt,and Sydney Crowder; five brothers: George Merritt (Nell); Lindsey Merritt (Billie); Nathan, Larry, and Kenneth Merritt; four sisters: Ida Churchman, Brenda Merritt, Diane Merritt and Flavia Barnett; former wife: Brenda Merritt; God-daughter: Brittany Tatum; many caring and devoted cousins, nieces, and friends.

Viewing will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016, 10 - 11 AM. Immediately followed by 11:00 AM funeral service. Both services will be held at The Fellowship of Enlightment Church, 9005 Wayside Dr., Houston, Texas 77028; Pastor Lawrence E. Woods, Minister.
