Bennie Jean (Collins) Barnett was born February 22, 1932 in Timpson, Texas to the late Benny and Monnie Collins. She attended Timpson High Colored School where she graduated. While attending Timpson High she played basketball for the school. She later moved her family to Houston, Texas in 1957. She attended Goodwill M.B.C. under the leadership of Rev. J. Franklin. She later moved her membership to Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church then under the leadership of Rev. Hubert Piro, which is presently under the leadedrship of Pastor Arthur R. Young.

She met and married the love of her life Herman Barnett in 1966. No children were born to this union. She worked for and provided a variety of services for various individual families over a period of 30 years. She loved bowling and belonged to a league for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Barnett; one daughter, Betty Williams; one grand-son Jokaric Williams; both of her parents, Benny and Monnie Collins.

She leaves to cherish her memories forever, seven wonderful children all of Houston, Texas: Van (Denise), JoAnne (Eli), Joe, Josephine, Benny (Debbie), Janice, Sandra (Ronnie); seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-great grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives, and many, many friends.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016.  Visitation will start at 10am immediately followed by 11am funeral service.  Both services will be held at Second Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 5214 Cavalcade St., Houston, Texas 77026.  Pastor Arthur R. Young, Officiating - Rev. Hubert Piro - Eulogist.

Interment will take place in Cemetery Beautiful, Houston, Texas.
